The restored ensemble "Riehmers Hofgarten" was already a statement at the time of its construction. Hoping for a better life and following the promises of the big city, people from all over moved to Berlin in the last years of the 19th century. Shortly before the turn of the century, Berlin had grown into a city of millions. While the empire was flourishing, most of Berlin's population lived in tight quarters under precarious conditions. It was precisely at this time that Wilhelm Riehmer created an urban planning counter-design.Riehmer wanted to move away from the concept of tenement blocks, with three, four, sometimes even five inner courtyards. He wanted and planned spacious, airy flats, which he lined up around a courtyard garden. The flats were affordable and were not aimed at Berlin's haute volee, but at the middle classes. Wilhelm Riehmer transferred his understanding of social democratisation to his housing project, which he pushed through in planning terms against the resistance of the authorities. Today, the revitalised ensemble shines in a new light thanks to extensive, detailed and affectionate restoration measures. Fitting

The restoration of Riehmers Hofgarten proves that it is possible to bring a beautiful residential monument from 1891 into the present day without disturbing the character and atmosphere of the location, the property and its history. Although attention has been paid to every original detail and, wherever possible, restored with respect for the original statement, the flats and ensemble do not look for a moment out of time. The original versions were preserved as far as possible, layers of paint were removed, missing parts were filled with the same materials, and in some cases entire stucco ceilings were reconstructed according to the old model.
